Blog 3: A Beginner’s Guide to Pass-A-Grille

Located on the western coast of Florida just outside of St. Petersburg is a stretch of beach known as the Pinellas Barrier Islands. This gorgeous beach area spans 23 miles all the way up the coast to Clearwater beach.

Pass-a-Grille is located at the very southern tip of the county and is frequented by both locals and tourists due to its quaint and quiet atmosphere.

Located at the southern end of St. Pete beach is a small community known as Pass-a-Grille. Offering more of a quaint and laid-back vibe, Pass-a-Grille offers pristine white sand beaches and clear ocean water as well as an offering of local retailers and restaurants. Located less than an hour from Tampa, you’ll quickly notice as you leave the busy city streets and hustle and bustle of the upper beaches, that the pace slows down considerably in this small, walkable beach community.

A day in Pass-a-Grille can be as laid-back or as active as you plan it. Get barefoot and go for a walk, go shelling, and relax under an umbrella to the sounds of the surf and the native birds. Cabanas can also be rented on the beach next to Paradise Grill (Even though we provide all beach chairs anyway 🙂 ) Paradise grill is also a great spot for lunch or a quick drink and is located just a few minutes walk from our bungalow. It is also the only restaurant directly on the sand in St Pete Beach. Other casual options include the Brass Monkey and the hurricane, which face the beach.

Other activities include riding on the shell key shuttle from the merry pier for a trip to an untouched small barrier island of Shell Key just south of Pass-a-Grille. It is also a popular boating destination during some of the busier holidays. While there, enjoy sunset cruises, dolphin cruises or just wander around searching for seashells on this dog-friendly island filled with sunny charm.

To take your fishing adventures out to sea book a fishing excursion at the Merry Pier or just fish right off of the bay. Other popular activities on the water are stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking which can both be rented on 8th St.
